Osaka Castle History at a Glance / 2nd ~7th floor

Artifacts on display, from which one can enjoy learning the history of Osaka Castle

Osaka Castle Museum has a large variety of historical materials and the screen displays well-designed for all visitors including children.
The diorama on the 7th floor contains 19 scenes from the life of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, karakuri Taikoki, his image shown and moved around by high technology.
The miniature figures and the panoramic screens(Panorama Vision)on the 5th floor show the scenes from the folding screen depicting the Summer War of Osaka.
Those epic and dynamic screens are great instructions to understand the history.
Five programs in series about Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Osaka Castle are shown on the screen, with subtitles in English, Chinese, and Korean at the Theater Room on the 1st floor. Our exhibition surely satisfies all visitors・interests

Observation Deck, from 50 meters above the ground where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Osaka Castle

The top floor is the observation deck, from where one can enjoy the panoramic view. Views of the spacious Osaka Castle Park, modern high-rise buildings, the Osaka plain, and the mountains in the distance are splendid.

The much-loved "Try-on of the helmet and surcoat"

You can try on a helmet, surcoat and kosode kimono, and have your photograph taken.(500 yen per person per time)

The Main Tower of Osaka Castle was recognized in 1997 as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property by the national government.

The Main Tower is a building that symbolizes the castle. As a result, it became a centerpiece of originality and invention, and was the most lavishly decorated among the castle structures. The Main Tower of Osaka Castle during the Toyotomi period was completed in 1585. It is said that Hideyoshi Toyotomi invited feudal lords from across the country and missionaries from Europe to the castle to display with pride the magnificent appearance of the Main Tower, the fine view from the observation platform, and his collected treasures. The present-day Main Tower, which was completed in 1931, is made of a steel-framed reinforced concrete structure, and reproduced the external appearance of the Main Tower built by Hideyoshi Toyotomi. In 1997, the Main Tower was recognized as a valued modern structure and was designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property by the national government.

A great number of valuable historical materials are on display in the collection of the Osaka Castle Museum. This conveys to visitors an authentic sense of the Azuchi-Momoyama period (from around 1570 to around 1600).

An end to the war-torn era and encountering foreign culture-In the Azuchi-Momoyama period, the most gorgeous and spirited culture flourished. The Main Tower of Osaka Castle is a museum which houses a collection of approximately 10,000 historical materials, including artifacts from this period as part of the main collection. The museum is proud of this extensive collection, which is both qualitatively and quantitatively the greatest in the country. It includes armor and weapons such as swords, folding screens illustrating the wars and battles, gorgeous furnishings and goods in makie style lacquer, and portraits and letters written by Hideyoshi Toyotomi and other war lords. These artifacts are on display in the museum and can be interchanged as the occasion demands
