Rokuban (the
Sixth) Turret (Important Cultural Asset)
@
This two-storied turret is in
the same style as Ichiban (the First) Turret, and was also
built in 1628. This turret was seriously damaged by the bombing
raids in 1945 and by Typhoon Jane in 1950. Consequently, when
it was disassembled for restoration, extensive repairs were
carried out, including the replacement of timbers.
2nd
Floor
Both the first and
second floors have high ceilings. It is said that
they were devised in a bid to improve the external
appearance of the corner turret.
1st
Floor
The turret
is furnished with the various armaments, including machicolations,
from which stones were thrown at enemies attempting
to scale the slanting of stone walls, and hidden loopholes.
