The existing Tamon Turret of Osaka Castle is the largest
of its kind amongst all such castles in Japan. Although
the present Tamon Turret was built in 1628, it burnt to
the ground due to lightning in 1783 and was reconstructed
in 1848. The turret, which was renovated after it had been
pulled down in 1956, and now stands as it had been originally.
Kurogane Gate of the turret is referred to as O-mon (the
Great Gate) of Ote.
